Centerfold: November 2018

This centerfold has probably been my best layout experience to date. I loved covering all these musicians, as they aren't the ones who we typically write about in our arts section. They are somewhat 'underground' musicians who have a lot of talent and deserved the coverage, so I'm glad we gave them the opportunity to share their experiences with us. Laying out this section was difficult and has been my most consuming endeavor to date, but it was worth it. Writing about these people who typically aren't in the paper attracted a lot of new readers and some well earned praise for our reporters. This centerfold has inspired me to make the February issue's centerfold just as great, if not better.

Centerfold: June 2018

The June 2018 issue was my first time ever doing centerfold. While I think that lack of experience is somewhat apparent to other journalists, the school loved the summer themed topic. Researching all these places in MA was super fun, and giving the pages some life with the bright colors turned out great. It was with this issue that I realized how much  agency I truly had in designing centerfold. Not only did I get to choose the topic, but I also had liberty to choose the colors, the people we interviewed, and all of the fun icons around the page. The immense time spent laying out these pages also cultivated a new appreciation for the previous EICs. They had also seemingly whipped up centerfold with ease, but I realized in June that they truly put huge amounts of time into it.

Arts: February 2018

By far this was my favorite section layout. I not only got to write the article about a cappella leaders, but I also had the wonderful opportunity to put that piece in the paper and do justice to the hardworking leaders. Additionally, I was able to include a piece on Sarah Calcio's artwork. Our previous Executive Editor wrote a touching piece on her art, and I was elated that I had the ability to include that in this rendtion of The Bradford.

Arts: November 2017

This was such a tricky section to put together! We had so many wonderful articles that I wanted to include, but just not enough space. I was able to play with the wording of each of these pieces, mess with Indesign for hours on end, and squeeze in all these wonderful writers. It taught me how frustrating layout can be in the process, but how rewarding the final product can be.
